In my opinion being hard on others or yourself is wrong. We should be fair in our dealings with others or ourselves. Earlier in my life I agreed with the Quote, but over time I realized it is wrong.

Americ Vs Israel

 I have a gut feeling that America will attack Israel.   The people who blame America for supporting Israel in the genoside is Gaza should blame only Israel not America for Israel actions. I also believe Hamas leadership is working for Israel, so Hammas leadership is to blame for genoside in Gaza. There is a limit to which you support/help your friend, but there comes a point where you had enough of it.
