begging profession
Yesterday I went to a seminar. In the seminar, the presenter said that the population of Pakistan is 230 million out of which 1 million are baggers. The daily wage of labor is 1,200Rs, and a bagger earns 3,500 daily. We are paid according to the value we add. A laborer helps in construction of buildings, while a bagger does nothing and still earns thrice of what a laborer earns.
My point is, what is value addition?
If you look from another point of view a politician, doctor, engineer, lawyer, prostitute, monk, actor,
singer, sportsman, cleaner, driver etc.. are also not add any value. It is up
to our point of view how we see things. So keep giving baggers money even if out
of 1 million baggers maybe 1 might be a genuine bagger.
A while back I read that the Saudi government arrested 3,000
baggers in Makkah and Madinah. My question was is begging illegal(haram) in
Islam? I don’t think so. Yes stealing is illegal(haram) in Islam so if someone
is pickpocket or thief arrest them and get them punished. If someone is begging
let them be, if someone wants to give them money it is not the concern of government.
Catch the thieves, not the baggers.
A week ago I went to Gulshan-e-Igbal, while I was sitting in
a tea restaurant 2-3 girls aged 14-15 years came to drink free water. I asked
them where they live, and they said they
live at Adam Road. It hurts to see them begging for money in the blazing sun.
